I sitting here with some of the guys and we are watching television. It amazes me how times have changed when it comes to entertainment. We are watching 'The Maury show'. If you're not familiar with the show it displays people who are involved in all kinds of defunctional behavior. This program shows broken relationships, infidelity, adultery and homosexual behavior on camera. The show doesn't attempt in any way to help the people involved. Their true motives are in essence that they exploit their guest's personal affairs as a form of entertainment. Then we watched a court television in which 2 lesbians were fighting with each other. I just thought to myself "is this where we are going as a society?" It is so sad that now we are entertaining ourselves by displaying the misfortunes of others! The television industry is getting so lazy to the point they don't write any more scripts. The just turn on a camera and piece together a show. Call me goodee two shoe but I enjoy stories of good over evil. I like stories of the good guy winning and the underdog person overcoming his or her obstacles to achieve their goals. When I watch shows like Maury or Jerry Springer I feel more like a 'nosey' neighbor intruding on private business. I know some have taken the arguement that entertainment is a matter of choice. The bible says Phillipians 4:8 'Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable--if anything is excellent or praiseworthy--think about such things.' By no means am I saying that my thoughts and actions are always where God wants them. I just saying that I manuver myself throughout my day by being in the right place and never going there. For example if the guys are passing around a 'dirty' magazine for everyone to see I try my best to avoid being pressured to look at it. Another way to look at this is that we as human beings should aspire to be kind, to be noble or to pure in our thoughts and intentions.
