The Sgt. Roy Weekly Blog Page

June 5 - Let me first open this blog page with an expression of thanks to all of you who have attended my classes, workshops, personal training sessions, ordered my book, and listen to my crazy conversations in the hallway. I could die and go to heaven being content because I am so happy to had known all of you! To be given the honor of being your coach and trainer has made my life worth living.

Even though I push people to be the best that they can be it is also true at the same time that all of us are NOT perfect. What I do believe in is NOT concentrating on falling down but "what are you going to do when you get back up?" I am no one special. I just believe that God has given everyone a unique and personal gift to make their own contribution to this world. If you know me, I am not impressed by the exploits of celebrities or famous people. What gets me going is learning and discovering what makes you tick and tock! I will use this blog as a weekly record to write about all you who attend my classes, boot camps, and training sessions. My objective is clear. I want to prove to you all that we all are dealing with life's issues but if we encourage one another we become an unbeatable force!

June 6 - I've got busy schedule today. I have lady that I train who was in a car accident about a year ago. Let's just call her Vette. Vette was almost killed by this head on collision. Both of her legs were broken and suffers from other multiple injuries. I visit her twice a week for training. Now, I am1 noted for having tough classes but here is a client that can't run and who is recovering from a car accident! It is amazing how we have been able together to come up with some workout routines right there in her home. I put her on the step for about 10 minutes and we use dumbbells for her arms. We have been working for about a month and already she is regaining some of her strength back. Good job, Vette!!!! Later today I another client that has lost a total of 80 poiunds for this year! Let's just call her Max. Max couldn't run down the street to the stop sign without running out of breath! She just completed this year her first half marathon! She is an animal now!

Also I am meeting with my boot camp workout group tonight at 7pm at Freedom Park. This is a standing meeting each Monday and Wednesday night at 7 pm at the park. All of you are welcomed to join us. The cost is just $10 each session for the whole summer! We are going to workout as a group every week. Click here for more details. Bring water and a towel.

Also I am opening up the SGT. ROY STORE. I will selling my book, t-shirts, and personal training packages. Click here for more details.

Also I have decided to market Nutrition and Wellness products. I have been for the past 5 months trying these products and now I can say that I can stand behind. Everything from vitamins, energy drinks, protein drinks and performance energy shots are in my store. Check them out. Sgt. Roy Nutrition and Wellness.

June 7 - We trained in the park today. We had a pretty big group. It was good seeing a few of my old good friends out there training again. One of them is getting ready to get married. I have known her for years. She would be a catch for any young man. We did two laps around the lake today but when I looked at my watch in essence we could have done three. The group was really pushed hard tonight. I figure we will get it on Wednesday. It was nice to have this man shout out to the group while passing by "by the end of the summer you guys are going to look great!"

June 10 - Tonight's class at the Dowd was great. My group for my 'Ultimate Training' class worked hard for me. I am instituting more cardio drills in between the sets of weight training. Everyone is for the most part really enjoying it. It's hard but I believe in a few months most of these people are going to look pretty 'cut' up. My 'Kickboxing' class really rocked tonight as well except for one thing. I did a jumping squat and the seam in my shorts split open! I couldn't believe that it happened. I don't wear tight shorts but sometimes they can slide down by my hips causing them to tighten up by my thighs. Just to make my class laugh, I turned around and showed them the tear in my shorts. It made their day. They laughed with me about it. That is the beauty about getting older. I don't really care about who accepts me. My students are the best! I love seeing them every week. My prayers go with them as they pursue whatever God has for them. Good job tonight guys!

June 14 - The workout in the park was awesome tonight! The girls showed up with a great attitude to get the job done. These 7 pm workouts are starting to work for everyone because the sun begins to set and the heat index begins to drop which makes it very comfortable for everyone.

June 15 - Tuesday mornings is my 'Ultimate Training' class. This class was my old sculpt class but souped it up by adding a few cardio and agility drills during the workout. My students say that it is hard but they are seeing the results that they want quickly.

June 16 - Workout in the park tonight was pretty good. We were able to hit on some tough upper body exercises. We did 3 full laps around the park tonight. My girls always understand that anyone can workout but NOT every one is willing to do the 'work'!

June 17 - I have for the past 10 years taught the 5:30 and 6:30 p.m. classes at the Dowd YMCA. I find it amazing that I have been able to go that long! (That's what she said!) My 5:30 pm people are different. They come in with an attitude to train hard and do whatever I ask of them. My 6:30 crowd is abit more high spirited and they have alot of energy that they need to expel. Either way at the end of my classes I am worn out! It's probably because of a few obvious things but one thing that I need to do a better job at is drinking water during class. I can easily go two hours straight without drinking a sip of water!

June 18 - Friday mornings always has me at the Harris YMCA for a repeat of my 6:30 kickboxing class that I do at the Dowd YMCA. I have been with this group just as long as the others. The demeanor of this group is so different. They are a older crowd mixed with a few pockets of young adults. That is why I have to hurry home, eat dinner and hit the sack so that I can be rested enough to teach this class! They too execute very well the routines that I give them. I am very proud of them.

June 20 - Today is Father's Day. I am so blessed to have my son home with me and his lovely wife who is 6 months pregnant with our FIRST grandchild. It's early Sunday morning and everyone is still sleeping. I am sitting at my favorite place in my house which is in our kitchen at the breakfast table that overlooks our backyard where I can see the bird house that I put 8 years ago. I love the quiteness of the morning. I allows me to slowly wake up and meditate on the greatness of God and how He has blessed my life. For the first time ever I sent my Dad some flowers. It's hard to buy for him because he has everything. I felt flowers would express to him just how much we appreciate him. Of course I will follow up tonight with a phone call as well. I am tickled because right now in my house I have two generations of my own that are sleeping under my roof! When my son was little I got gifts from him like 'soap on a rope' and 'tube socks'. The time will come when his son (we know it's boy) will do the same for him. My legacy for them both is simple. BE A MAN! Some might read that statement and become totally confused because manhood is defined differently for so many people. My definition is simple. In the beginning God 'created' man. I won't go on from here but I am sure you understand where I am taking you. A godly man loves his children. A godly man respects his wife. A godly man is the leader of his family. A godly man accepts his FULL responsibility as a man. These are the traits that I have seen in my father and that I have tried so hard to emulate in my life as well. I encouraged my son to do the same as will I hope to instill these values into my grandson who I have yet to meet. So if you have a father honor him today by giving him a call. He may not have been the perfect father but to honor him is to honor the position he holds whether he chose to accept it or not. God will bless you for it. Happy Father'

June 23 - The 'Workouts in the Park' are going very well. It is good to see old friends again as we share the same common bond together of getting ourselves back into better shape. The 7 p.m. time slot is really working well for us despite the increasing summer heat. I make sure that we stick to the 1 hour time limit. It's strange, when we are done some of us stick around and chit chat for awhile. In my opinion it beats sitting in front of a television set.

June 24 - I am at the beach in the state of Delware. I have never been here before. My assistant Sgt. John is filling in for me while I am away with my family. The challenge here for me is going to be enduring 5 days of NO exercise, bad eating habits and family. In all seriousness it is always good to take a break every once in awhile.

June 29 - It is my first week back from vacation. My body feels awlful. My stomach is bloated and my muscles feel so stiff from the lack of daily exercise. I know that I ate horrible while I was away. I am not going to lie, those 'soft' shelled crabs where pretty good! I think it's not fair that it can take a long time for a person to get into shape but once there it can only take a few days to get out of shape! I am going to really push hard this week to get back on track!

June 30 - Good class this morning. I am in the middle of a 2 week boot camp right now. The group is small but are motivated to train. I don't care so much for large groups as compared to individuals who are ready and motivated to train. This group is a lot of fun to work with. I have 3 ladies who are 'off the chain'! All 3 of them did 'assisted' pull ups! Good job!
